License

You need a valid license to run Astra. If this is your first time using Astra, get a free 40-day demo license to try all features.

Get your free demo license

Astra has three licensing options:

  • Demo: a free license to try all features for 40 days. For evaluation only, not commercial use
  • Subscription: a paid license with monthly or yearly billing. Includes technical support and regular updates. You can cancel your subscription at any time
  • Lifetime: a paid license with one-time payment for permanent use. No updates - works with versions released before your purchase date. You can upgrade anytime to get the latest version

Each license includes a server limit. You can run Astra on as many servers as your license allows. For example, a 5-server license lets you install and use Astra on up to 5 different servers. There is no limit on the number of Astra processes you can run on a single server.

  1. Check your email: You’ll receive an email with your license file and installation instructions
  2. Install the license: Follow the step-by-step instructions in the email to install your license file on your server
  3. Restart Astra: Run systemctl restart astra to activate your new license
  4. Start using Astra: Your license is now active and you can begin configuring your streaming setup

Purchase License

After purchase, you’ll receive your license by email with installation instructions.

We’ll send you renewal reminders by email:

  • 7 days before your license expires
  • On the day your license expires

Both emails include a direct link to renew your subscription. You can also renew anytime in your Profile.

Your serial number stays the same after renewal, so no additional setup is needed. After renewing, restart Astra to apply the updated license information.

Need to add more servers to your subscription? You can upgrade anytime in your Profile.

How pricing works:

  • Upgrade cost is calculated based on your remaining subscription days
  • You get a discount for additional servers
  • Use our pricing calculator to see exact costs before upgrading

To downgrade your license: Contact our support team for assistance.

You may transfer your license and subscription to another account, please contact us in chat.

If you lost your license or it has been leaked, you may reset your serial number. Open your profile on our website: Profile and click “Reset serial number”. You will receive a new license and installation guide by email immediately.

You have three options to move your Astra license to a new server:

Create a backup on your old server and restore it on the new one. This moves your license and all settings. See Backup and Restore guide.

Copy file with your license from your old server to the new server:

Terminal window
ssh old-server "cat /etc/astra/license.txt" | ssh new-server "sudo tee /etc/astra/license.txt"

If you can’t access your old server, reset your serial number in your Profile and install the new license file you receive by email

Card and PayPal payments are processed almost instantly. Bank transfers are confirmed when funds arrive in our account - you can speed this up by sending the payment confirmation to our support team.

After payment, you’ll receive a confirmation email and your profile will be updated with the new license information.

When I renew my subscription, do I need to reinstall the license?

Section titled “When I renew my subscription, do I need to reinstall the license?”

No, you don’t need to reinstall the license after renewal. Your serial number remains the same, so Astra will continue to use the existing license file.

However, you do need to restart Astra to apply the updated license information if you’re using a version released before November 2025. You can do this via the web interface SettingsRestart.
